Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Guidelines for Authors – Open Journal of Direct Science

Manuscript format:

The manuscript must be written in English, in Word format (.docx).
Pages in A4 format (212 × 297 mm), margins: top and left 3 cm, bottom and right 2 cm.
Font: Arial, size 12, single spacing.
Indent 1.25 cm at the beginning of each paragraph.
The main file must not contain the authors' identification, including the document properties.
Summary and Keywords:
The abstract must have a maximum of 250 words in a single paragraph, containing the objective, the method, the results, and the main conclusions.
The abstract must be presented in English.
3 to 5 keywords must be indicated.

Citations and references:

The indications and references must strictly follow the Vancouver style.

In the text, the instructions must be numbered consecutively in superscript or in parentheses, according to the order in which they appear in the manuscript.

The references must be presented at the end of the article, in numerical order.

Mandatory additional file: a separate file (.bib or .docx) containing the references in a format ready for import into Overleaf (LaTeX) must be submitted.

Graphic elements (figures, tables, and charts):

In the body of the manuscript, only the indication of the element (e.g., Figure 1, Table 2) should appear at the point where the author wishes the material to be inserted in the final version.
The files corresponding to figures, tables, and graphs must be selected separately as supplementary files to the submission.
Each file must be properly numbered and identified according to the indication made in the text.
Minimum conditions for figures:
Format: .jpg, .png, or .tiff.
Minimum resolution: 300 dpi.
Minimum width: 1200 pixels.
Maximum file size: 5 MB.
Tables, charts, and graphs must be presented in an editable format (.docx or .xlsx).

Types of Submission:

Direct Science accepts the following types of manuscripts:

Original articles: results of original empirical, theoretical, experimental, or conceptual research.

Literature reviews: An INTEGRATIVE REVIEW and a SYSTEMATIC REVIEW of the available literature on a given topic will be accepted. NARRATIVE REVIEW PAPERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Case reports: investigations and analyses of relevant cases, with academic, scientific, or technological contributions.

Supplementary files MUST BE ATTACHED:

Main file: manuscript without author(s)' identification, WITH NUMBERED LINES.
Figures, tables, and charts must be attached as individual files, according to the specifications in item 4.
References file: in .bib (LaTeX) or .docx format for import into Overleaf.
Personal data file containing:
Full name and academic title.
Institution/affiliation.
e-mail address.
ORCID.
Submission Template:
To standardize submissions, the journal provides a submission template (official template) in Word and LaTeX (Overleaf).
The template serves as a guide and must be used mandatorily in the preparation of the manuscript.
The template is available in the submission section of the journal's website.

Editorial Process:

All manuscripts are subjected to double-blind peer review.
The possible decisions are accepted, revisions allowed, or rejected.
The average time for an editorial decision is up to 90 days.

Attention:

Manuscripts that do not fully comply with these guidelines will be returned for adjustments before evaluation.

For plagiarism detection, we use the software CopySpider.

The declaration of the use of artificial intelligence (when used in the composition of the manuscript) is required in the methodology section.

After the manuscript is approved for publication, the author(s) must pay the publication costs. Our costs are subsidized by sponsors, and for this reason, we offer very affordable editorial fees.

The payment must be made through a link that will be generated after the editorial evaluation process is completed.

Publication fee (1st semester of 2026): R$ 300.00.
